A Life Without Lulu Would Be A Less Than Desirable Day

With the recent announcement of the Lululemon CEO Christine Day stepping down after 5 1/2 years , I am feeling compelled to get on my soapbox and shout the praises of the brand myself. Day came under pressure earlier this year when Lululemon was forced to do a costly recall of their popular yoga pant due to a less than durable fabric, leaving the pants somewhat see-through. Costly maybe, but will this resignation be more so for the brand?

I am certainly not a business expert, but I do know that over the past 5 1/2 years the rise of Lulu popularity grew and profits soared. According to the Washington Post, Lululemon’s share price increased fivefold. Not to mention, the high end brand name of Lululemon is often shortened  by the most savvy workout girl when she is asked, “Where did you get that top/pant/jacket?” A swift reply of “Lulu” is the only answer a girl needs to give and instantly you know where she got it. I don’t remember Nike or Adidas having a nickname?

Lulu offers everything for every workout girl, from the yoga mat to the trail. My blog has been sprinkled with Lululemon products reviews over the past couple years. I can say with confidence that many more are to come. If you read my blog with any regularity then you know I am all about the sports and the exercising, but I still have a deep love for fashion and functionality. And that love transcends right over into my exercise wardrobe. I am always on the hunt for the most practical ensemble while still managing to look somewhat adorable. With the introduction of Lululemon into the workout world in 1998, that helped fitness girls everywhere achieve both of those things. I didn’t find out about the Lulu club until just a few years ago while training for a 1/2 marathon, but when I did I became an instant fan.

I am so hooked on the stuff, the girls in my office know to pitch in for Lulu gift cards for all special occasions for me such as sales contests or birthdays.

The red logo has been elating joy in my world ever since 🙂 Not only are the clothes totally ADORBS, they are durable, functional and practical.

If you haven’t tried it yet, you are missing out! Visit your local Lululemon today. Stay tuned this summer for this season’s must haves for summer workouts.

A day without Lulu for me would be less than desirable…Let’s hope that Lulu without Day is not the case.

Tuesday Tune, Let It Roll

Leave it to Flo Rida to serve up a new song just in time for Summer 2013 and the 1/2 Marathon training playlist !!!!

Let It Roll is Fit Petite approved to get you moving. With great music like this, you are sure to want to move. Killer music is a key essential to a 2+ hour workout (1/2 marathon).

Some of my fav lyrics:

“Love is nice when it’s understood”

“Come on baby let the good times roll”

“More drinks for us, toast the good times”

“Let’s go all out”

Reminds me of summer champs and dance parties on the beach!!!

Let the good times roll…

1/2 Marathon Training Includes Pilates

When making my plans for summer exercise, I pretty much have it covered with training for the 2013 Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon over the next 10 weeks. However, I needed to add in some dedicated core work and stretching. This is something I have not done before when training for a long race. A new Pilates studio opened recently in Virginia Beach, and even better right near my house. This makes it convenient for early morning or after work sessions. Core strength is essential when running long distances. A strong middle will support your back and body while pushing through the long race. Pilates will help with flexibility, strength, and helps with muscle soreness.

A few weeks ago I decided to stop by the new neighborhood Pilates studio and see what it was all about. Soon after meeting the owners of Pilates Fitness Club; husband and wife, Chris and Trichelle Moxley, I knew there were good things coming out of their studio. Clients were coming out smiling but fulfilled from the session they had just attended. Chris and Trichelle are welcoming and inviting with their friendly faces and immense knowledge of Pilates. Chris, a lifelong athlete, is well versed in biomechanics, advanced stability training, and has a degree in Kinesiology.

After trying my first session about 2 weeks ago, I knew this would be a great compliment to running and training for the 1/2 marathon. I have committed to two weekly sessions while training. The stretching and movements are helping me stand taller and hold everything in! 2 weeks in to my Rock n Roll training with running and Pilates and I can already tell a difference in my posture, tone, and figure!!!

I encourage you to try it out today.

***While writing this blog, I am listening to E! in the background and can hear Kristin Cavallari raving about Pilates! By looking at her svelte figure, I think that’s a great sign 🙂 ***

Here are a few pics of my first session. Stay tuned for more information, reviews, and benefits of from my time at Pilates Fitness Club.

National Running Day 2013, Final Kick

National Running Day 2013!!!

Every year on this day runners everywhere come together for a group run and social. I was aware of 3 different group runs just in Virginia Beach. I was torn as to which one to attend. I decided to go to the official Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon training and Kickoff party at Final Kick. ***(Final Kick is also known as the land of the ELITE runner. Fit people everywhere!!! Triathletes, Marathons, and basically just some fast and tough athletes!!! They have all my respect. Visit their website to see their training schedule.)***

It made sense for me to attend this group run, as I am a Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon fundraiser this year for GOTR, and I am so glad I did 🙂

It was a great event. Dozen of runners showed up and when I arrived at 5:15, there was line forming out the door for the 5:30 start. The event started with free swag!!! We love that, especially when it is training gear. Handfuls of  Power Bars, Gu, and a Rock N Roll Running tank. Love the design this year!

Once we gathered our free gear, we got ready for the group run. I met my friend Tami at the run and we decided to settle in to a comfortable pace and chat it up on our easy 3-4 mile run. I say 3-4 mile, because no one could give us a definite answer, although I think it was around 3.6! The run passed quickly as we chatted about everything from boys, work, food, and exercise. We even made some new runner friends on the way. I learned some new running tips and was invited to a book club meeting for runners and the topic of nutrition later this month.

When the run was completed, we decidied we would go enjoy the complimentary beer. After all, what would National Running Day be without free beer!?!?!

Tuesday Tune, I Want Crazy

***Note this song was in the running last week, but this past Friday I had the pleasure of hearing it performed live as part of the Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival, which sealed the deal for making the list this week***

This week I am focusing on my latest repeat track and can’t help but relate these song lyrics to running.

Hunter Hayes hit the charts this summer with his catchy and upbeat tune, “I Want Crazy.” As I am fully aware, this song is about LOVE…but the only thing I have been in love with as long as I can remember is running. So see the lyrics of Hunter below, followed by my interpretation 🙂

I’m booking myself a one way flight
I gotta see the color in your eyes
I’m telling myself I’m going to be alright
Without you baby is a waste of time

(Heading to the boardwalk, gotta see the colors in the sky in the morning over the beach, without running nothing would make sense. I would be fat and cranky)

Our first date girl the seasons changed
Got washed away in the summer rain
Can’t undo a fall like this
Cause love don’t know what distance is

(First time I started running was in the change of seasons of summer to fall starting cross-country, Once I was hooked there was nothing else I could do)

Yeah I know it’s crazy

But I don’t want good
And I don’t want good enough
I want can’t sleep can’t breath without your love
Front porch and one more kiss
It Doesn’t make sense to anybody else
Who cares if your all I think about
I’ve searched the world and I know now
It ain’t bad if you ain’t lost your mind

(I don’t want to just run, I like to give it my best on race day, I sleep better when I’m running, I have searched for other workout routines but my body responds best to running)

Yeah I don’t want easy
I want crazy
Are you with me baby
Lets be crazy

(People think I am crazy because at times, this isn’t easy)

Yeah

I wanna be scared don’t wanna know why
I wanna feel good, don’t have to be right
The world makes all kind of rules for love
I say you gotta let it do what it does

(Fear is good, it motivates you, I feel great and confident when I’m running and training)
I don’t want just another hug and a kiss goodnight
Catching up calls and a date sometimes
A love that revels and we still believe
We’re the kind of crazy people wish that they could be
I know what crazy
Yeah

(The best results are when you are running consistently, not sometimes)
But I don’t want good
And I don’t want good enough
I want can’t sleep can’t breath without your love
Front porch and one more kiss
Doesn’t make sense to anybody else
Who cares if your all I think about
I’ve searched the world and I know now
It ain’t bad if you ain’t lost your mind

Yeah I don’t want easy
I want crazy
Are you with me baby
Lets be crazy

But I don’t want good
And I don’t want good enough
I want can’t sleep can’t breath without your love
Front porch and one more kiss
Doesn’t make sense to anybody else
Who cares if your all I think about
I’ve searched the world and I know now
It ain’t bad if you ain’t lost your mind

Yeah I don’t want easy
I want crazy
Yeah look at us baby
Tonight the midnight rules are breaking

There’s no such thing as wild enough
Maybe we just think too much
Who needs to play it safe in love
Lets be crazy

Who cares if we’re crazy

We gotta be crazy
I know that we’re crazy
So lets be crazy

Yeah

Ok, I know it’s a stretch but indulge me and enjoy this week’s song choice:)

Happy Crazy

Jess
